New IoT certification and open-source access elevate KNX as the standard for secure, interoperable smart home and building solutions
KNX Association proudly announces several groundbreaking developments in KNX IoT technology, marking a new era of innovation and reliability for smart home and building automation. Through these advancements, KNX strengthens its position as a leader in the global IoT landscape, driving standards for interoperability, security, and innovation. The release highlights KNX’s newly launched certification scheme for IoT devices, ensuring stringent quality and security standards, as well as the successful certification of the first KNX IoT devices. With the KNX IoT stack now commercially available on the Thread protocol and an open-source initiative to encourage further innovation, KNX continues to expand possibilities for developers and integrators alike.
The launch of KNX IoT was an important landmark, delivering key IoT benefits like high-level IPv6-supported interoperability, advanced physical and network layers, and embedded security by design. From development through integration, KNX IoT provides essential resources for every product lifecycle stage, empowering manufacturers to create top-tier IoT devices, solutions, and services for diverse smart home and building applications. The ETS Tool further simplifies integration and configuration of KNX devices from any manufacturer, across all physical layers, through a modern user interface.
KNX Association has launched its official certification scheme for KNX IoT devices, representing a significant advancement in KNX IoT technology. This certification ensures that devices meet the necessary standards for interoperability and security, setting a benchmark for quality across the smart home and building industry. By establishing this certification, KNX paves the way for a future of secure, IP-based, and seamlessly integrated ecosystems that enhance the reliability and functionality of smart home and building industry. The KNX IoT Stack from the KNX Member Cascoda was certified directly by KNX Association, enabling easier development for other KNX IoT devices. As a result, Futurasmus KNX Test Lab conducted the first external certification tests for the ATOUCH Glass Panels, showcasing the reliability of the new KNX IoT stack and setting a precedent for future certifications.
The first commercial KNX IoT stack, developed by Cascoda, is now commercially available on the Thread protocol, offering KNX members a secure, low-power mesh network solution for smart home and building automation. Additionally, KNX Association has made the IoT stack open source, encouraging industry innovation and transparency. This allows developers worldwide to build on KNX IoT technology, driving the development of advanced solutions for the future of smart environments. Additional KNX IoT stack solutions are in progress to offer new possibilities for KNX Members to develop their KNX IoT devices and solutions in the near future.
