The Solar Inverter Gateway is engineered to provide seamless integration of renewable energy sources—such as PV arrays, residential-scale battery storage units, Smart Energy Meters, and OCPP 1.6J compliant Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations—into KNX-based building automation networks. Intelligent Energy Management and Monitoring Through this integration, the system monitors not only generation data but also real-time building consumption via the Smart Energy Meter. Critical operational data, including solar generation output, inverter status, battery storage parameters, and grid import/export measurements (Voltage, Current, Power), are communicated directly to the KNX bus. This enables intelligent, data-driven energy management decisions. EV Integration via OCPP 1.6J With full OCPP 1.6J (Open Charge Point Protocol) support, the gateway establishes bi-directional communication with EV charging stations. This allows the KNX system to monitor charger status, instantaneous charging power, and energy consumption. Charging sessions can be initiated, terminated, or scheduled via KNX based on energy availability or tariff periods. Dynamic Load Management and Optimization The primary objective is to maximize the efficiency of renewable energy utilization and reduce dependency on the utility grid. The system prioritizes the consumption of locally produced energy through: - Self-Consumption: Prioritizing local loads before exporting to the grid. - Smart Charging: Dynamically adjusting EV charging speeds during peak solar production to "store" green energy. - Load Shifting: Automatically triggering HVAC systems, water heaters, or other high-power appliances based on the balance between generation and demand.
