Detailed Description

Energy Efficiency

The usage of automated functions already save energy in every installation. Especially the usage of KNX has a lot of potential for further energy savings, which can contribute to a better environmental footprint. Be extending KNX to more functions and applications, energy savings of up to 60% can be realised. Thanks to the flexibility of KNX, these functions can easily be implemented in this installation

Innovation

Smart homes and buildings are always an upgrade in comparison to a conventional installation. Not only automated functions and a higher level of comfort contribute to a higher living standard, but also the possibility to be ready for coming innovations. Thanks to the usage of KNX, the door has been opened to integrate new innovative solutions, using the worldwide STANDARD for home and building control.

Applications Used

  • Lighting - Switching, Dimming, Light Scenes, Timed Control, Automatic Occupancy Detection
  • Heating, Ventilation & Air conditioning (HVAC) - Central & Automatic Control, Timed Operation Modes, Weather Dependent Control, Individual Room Control / Zone Control, Valve Drive Control / Fan Coil Control, Floor Heating Control, Boiler and burner Control
  • Security and Safety - Faults (e.g. Leak Detection, Glass Break Detection, Window Contacts), Access Control, Intrusion Detection / Alarm Systems, Supervision (e.g. Cameras), Interaction with HVAC/Lighting
  • Operation and Visualisation - Switches / Push Buttons, Touch Panels & Display Panels, Tablets and smart phones
  • Energy Management/Smart Metering - Visualisation, Fuel or Water tank level control, Energy Harvesting (Avoiding use of batteries), Use of Renewable Energies
  • Other - Intercom, Audio Control, Video Control, Distributed Facilities
  • Automation and Remote Access - Timed Functions, Logical Functions, Internet Access, Remote Programming
  • Blind and Shutter Control - Individual Control, Group & Central Control, Wind and Rain Protection

Customers Description

This project is the ultimate prove that EIB/KNX was and is the way to go for building automation. It all started in the year 1999 with EIB devices programmed in the ETS-2 software. For the update we only replaced EIB devices that needed to be replaced. For instance the ‘old’ dimming actuators are not able to dim LED. The design of the pushbuttons is outdated so they are replaced on the first and second floor. All other pushbuttons/thermostats on the other 3 floors and shutter/switching actuators remained in the installation. This means that more than 70% of the devices are still EIB devices. With energy consumption in mind and by replacing Belgium’s first EIB controlled 20 zone multiroom audio system to new amplifiers, the replacement of the lights and the optimizing the control of the Viessmann heating system we have created enormous energy savings in the daily use of the installation. In addition with the solar panel installation this number is reduced even more.
