Origins and Outlook For over 40 years, MDT has been developing and manufacturing electronic products in Engelskirchen (near Cologne), giving the company extensive expertise. Founded in 1984 as MCI, the company initially produced personal computers, memory modules and PC accessories during its first 25 years. In 2005, the company was officially renamed from MCI to MDT technologies. Since 2009, MDT has focused exclusively on the development and production of KNX products. MDT Group – Together for KNX Since June 2024, the Belgian premium sensor brand Tense has been part of the MDT Group. For more than ten years, Tense has stood for the highest-quality, handcrafted push buttons and control elements for building automation. Highlights of the product portfolio include the frameless, elegant Intensity series as well as the timeless Serenity and Velocity series. In October 2025, MDT acquired the German KNX pioneer Tapko Technologies GmbH. Founded in 1999, Tapko has been committed to the EIB/KNX standard from the very beginning. As one of the most innovative KNX specialists, the company has an excellent network across Europe and works on international development projects. Its portfolio supports customers with consultancy and services from the initial product idea through to production. The two managing directors, Petar Tomic and Klaus Adler, are widely regarded as pioneers in the KNX world. Also in October 2025, the Croatian KNX manufacturer Apricum d.o.o. became part of the MDT Group. Apricum has been active in the KNX market for decades and was founded in 2001 by Olivera Tomic in Split, Croatia. In 2002, construction began on the company’s first electronics manufacturing facility. One of its first products was a fan coil controller for the international KNX market – a successful product that was followed by many others.
