Detailed Description

Energy Efficiency

The usage of automated functions already save energy in every installation. Especially the usage of KNX has a lot of potential for further energy savings, which can contribute to a better environmental footprint. Be extending KNX to more functions and applications, energy savings of up to 60% can be realised. Thanks to the flexibility of KNX, these functions can easily be implemented in this installation

Innovation

Smart homes and buildings are always an upgrade in comparison to a conventional installation. Not only automated functions and a higher level of comfort contribute to a higher living standard, but also the possibility to be ready for coming innovations. Thanks to the usage of KNX, the door has been opened to integrate new innovative solutions, using the worldwide STANDARD for home and building control.

Applications Used

  • Lighting - Switching, Dimming, Light Scenes, Timed Control
  • Heating, Ventilation & Air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Security and Safety
  • Operation and Visualisation - Switches / Push Buttons, PC Visualisation

Customers Description

The project expanded the capacity of Sri Lanka's main international airport in Sri Lanka by adding an extra 210,000m2 of apron area, which increased the number of aircraft parking stands at the airport from 25 to 48 parking stands. The entire floodlighting system of the expanded apron area is controlled and monitored by a KNX control system. The floodlighting system consists of 21 high masts and 83 DALI dimmable LED floodlights along with an additional 34 switching LED floodlights. Each high mast consisted of a power panel with its own KNX devices for localised control of an individual high mast. Communication between the high masts and the ATC control tower (located more than 2km away from the nearest high mast) was on an IP backbone via fiber optic cabling. The control tower had a visualisation of the entire system on a workstation and a separate workstation was installed at the maintenance building with only monitoring capability.
